Resources for Women in Bangkok – Support for Survivors of Abuse and Domestic Violence

According to a survey last year, 1 in 6 Thai women in heterosexual relationships reported experiencing intimate partner violence. In another survey, 42% said they’d been forced into sexual acts with their boyfriends or husbands.

In Thailand, domestic violence is often viewed as a private matter and something that those outside the household shouldn’t interfere with. This stops many Thai women from receiving the assistance they need. For foreigners, the language barrier and unfamiliarity with local authorities can make matters even more difficult.

The aim of this post is to make it easier for victims of abuse to reach out, and to let them know where to turn when it’s time to do so. Here’s a list of Bangkok-based foundations that specialize in these kinds of cases, offering legal guidance, financial assistance, therapy and advice.

  5. Hi there,

My name is Claire Willis. I came across the helpful resources you shared about domestic violence at https://undertheropes.com/2019/04/30/resources-women-bankok-abuse-domestic-violence and was wondering if you were open to adding a new resource to that page.

I work for an advocacy center called Helping Survivors. Our mission is to assist anyone who has been victimized by sexual assault or abuse. Our website is a compilation of information around different instances of sexual violence. We offer resources to assist survivors and their families, and we will continuously be adding more. We recently made a guide specific to domestic violence and sexual abuse. It has tons of great info, including how to help someone who has experienced this type of abuse and warning signs to be aware of:

Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse – helpingsurvivors.org/domestic-violence-and-sexual-abuse/

I think our guide could be a useful addition to your page. If you agree, would you consider sharing a link to our organization on your site?

Let me know what you think and if there are any questions.

Thank you for your time and have a great day,

    Claire
