I recently attended the Gender Equality and Sport+ conference by the Global Observatory for Gender Equality & Sport @genderequalitysport in Lausanne 🇨🇭 where I hosted a workshop on behalf of the @sportandrightsalliance Under the Ropes is now an official member of the Martial Arts Coalition for Sustainable Development, a global network of 100+ organisations in more than 40 countries working to create a more equitable, peaceful and sustainable world in and through martial arts and combat sports.  Next week, I'll be presenting in this webinar for @tafisaofficial The Association for International Sport for All on building cultures of safeguarding in sport, in which we'll be discussing how to go beyond compliance to impact cultural change, and how leadership, power dynamics, trust and organisational culture determine how safeguarding policies are applied in practice. Some photos by @helentran.co from a 2020 training session at Attachai Gym. They were taken as part of her She Fights project, a photo-documentary series on the stories of women in Muay Thai which often highlighted the barriers to access, opportunity and visibility they faced along the way. Here's a late update from the @martialartsstudies conference at the University of Brighton. I had the pleasure of presenting as part of a spotlight panel titled 'Breaking the Code of Silence: Safeguarding in Combat Sports and Martial Arts' alongside Dr. Anastasiya Khomutova & Dr. Aura Goldman, who both touched upon the ways that some of the cultural aspects of our sports that are often viewed as integral to growth can contribute to harm by subtly normalising boundary violations. It's now been 13 years since Under the Ropes began, and it's amazing how far it has come since it started as a personal blog in 2013. I'd started fighting 2 years earlier, but waited to put it out there because I thought that no one would be interested in what I had to say. That self-doubt still comes up sometimes, but I'm glad it hasn't stopped me from putting myself out there. I could never have imagined where it would lead.
