Muay Siam Club has been documenting women’s Muay Thai by publishing online fight news and fighter profiles since 2010. It was created by Muay Siam journalist DtuaLek Lampang, who has put in an extensive amount of work over the years reporting on women’s Muay Thai, both in the newspaper and online. For years, he created and uploaded female fighter profiles to Meeboard, an online message board that is unfortunately now-defunct. During that time, it was an incredible source, not just for Muay Thai fans, but also for fighters, who could find contacts for potential matches and background information on upcoming opponents. While Dtualek continues to post on the Muay Siam Club Facebook page and Muay Siam Club Muay Ying Facebook group, the Meeboard profiles are no longer accessible. The website was shut down in 2020, and it would be a shame for the legacy of these fighters, and Dtualek’s catalogue of work, to be lost to history.

Muay Siam Club Archives is a project by Under the Ropes to retrieve the lost web archives and republish them with English translation to preserve women’s Muay Thai history, and make it accessible to an international audience.

After recovery and translation, fighter profiles are published on this page, listed in alphabetical order. Fighters’ names are written in Thai as well as English to make it easier to look them up elsewhere. These profiles often include a home address, which has been simplified to home province in the translated version. Entries contain valuable information, not only on fight records, but also on when each athlete started fighting, how much they got paid for their first fight, and the highest fight purse they’d ever received. Together, this paints a picture of the landscape of women’s Muay Thai at that time, and the scale of opportunity that was available.

Profiles listed here do not provide a full picture of each fighter’s career, but a historical snapshot of when they were profiled by Muay Siam Club. They are not uniform, and some contain more information than others, while some listings are just photos with fighters’ names.

This is an ongoing project, and working through hundreds of articles is a labour of love that will take some time. To keep updated on new entries, follow Under the Ropes on Instagram or Facebook.

Sylvie von Duuglas-Ittu names Dtualek as one of five important people for muay ying in Thailand in her YouTube runcast, describing how his work helped her to learn to read Thai while discovering Thai and foreign female fighters.
